Richard Evans is the founder of The Profs, a company that provides expert tutors for a wide range of subjects and exam preparation. With a passion for education and a drive to make a difference, Richard started The Profs with the goal of making high-quality tutoring accessible to everyone.

Under his leadership, The Profs has become a leading provider of private tuition and exam preparation, known for its experienced and knowledgeable tutors, tailored learning programs, and commitment to student success. With a background in education and business, Richard is a visionary leader who is dedicated to providing the best possible tutoring experience for students. As founder and director, Richard is committed to the continued rapid growth and success of The Profs.

The Hiring Process

The Profs has a thorough and comprehensive hiring process to ensure that we bring on the best and most qualified candidates.

Application process - careers - the profs

1Application Submission

Prospective employees must complete an online application form and upload a resume and cover letter.

2Initial Screening

The hiring team will review the applications and select the candidates who best match the required skills and experience for the position.

3Phone Interview

Candidates who pass the initial screening will be contacted for a pre-screening phone interview to determine if they meet the necessary qualifications and to determine their availability.

4In-person Interview or Second Phone Interview

Selected candidates will then be invited for an in-person interview or follow-up phone interview with the hiring manager. During this interview, candidates will be asked a series of situational questions to assess their fit for the position.

5Reference Checks:

The Profs will perform reference and background checks on the selected candidates to verify their work experience.

6Offer

If a candidate passes all the previous stages, they will receive a formal job offer from The Profs. The offer will include details about the salary, benefits, and start date.

The Profs' work-from-home (WFH) policy is a flexible and employee-centric approach to remote work. This policy provides employees with the option to work from their own home at least one day a week, depending on their role. The company believes in providing its employees with a healthy work-life balance and understands that some remote work can play an important role in achieving this. The WFH policy outlines guidelines for communication, productivity, and accountability, ensuring that work is conducted seamlessly regardless of location.
The casual dress code at The Profs allows for comfortable and relaxed clothing, such as jeans, t-shirts, trainers, and similar attire. However, clothing should be clean, neat, and appropriate for a professional environment.
The working hours for The Profs are normally between 9:00 am to 6:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break. This can vary based on individual schedules and responsibilities for contractors. However, in general, staff are expected to work for a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Leo evans

Education: Imperial College Business School | PhD in Finance

Dr Leo Evans is an award-winning EdTech entrepreneur whose innovations have helped over 50,000 students in over 120 countries progress in life. He began his career at J.P. Morgan, rising to Vice President in just a year in 2012, before returning to Imperial College Business School as a top-rated lecturer in Finance. In 2014, he partnered with his brother Richard Evans to build The Profs.

Building on this success, Leo launched two more pioneering EdTech platforms: Bitpaper (collaborative whiteboard) and Spires (online tutoring marketplace), as part of The Profs Group. As a result of Leo’s vision, The Profs was named “EdTech of the Year 2024” at the EducationInvestor Awards.

Education: LSE | Economics & Philosophy – 1st Class Honours

A professional tutor with over 15 years of experience, Richard founded The Profs to help students achieve life-changing results after graduating from LSE. Richard is passionate about levelling up university admissions and partnered with the Department for Education to improve careers education nationally. He is also a key supporter of raising professional and ethical standards in private tutoring, having served as Non-Executive Director of The Tutors’ Association.

Today, Richard continues to mentor students worldwide into top business schools or else films educational content for our YouTube channel, which has surpassed 2 million views. Richard also holds an executive leadership certificate from Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

As The Profs’ very first external hire, Joe has dedicated the past 10 years to helping thousands of our clients across diverse roles. Initially joining as a Client Liaison Manager, Joe went on to spearhead the development and launch of The Profs Consultancy with a focus on admissions support for elite UK and US universities.

As of 2023, Joe oversees all commercial operations while diligently managing our Widening Participation Programmes with Oxbridge universities, which have helped 100+ underprivileged students secure their dream places.

Richard fitzgerald

Education: Chartered Institute of Marketing Level 6 (Diploma)

Richard brings over 25 years of higher education marketing experience, having helped grow his previous organisation to £500 million in revenue across 32 brands. His expertise spans brand strategy, student acquisition, digital transformation and commercial growth at scale. Prior to joining The Profs, Richard progressed through a series of senior leadership roles, including Head of Brand & Marketing, Director of Brand & Marketing and Director GTM. Today, Richard works closely with the founders and senior leadership team to shape The Profs Group’s long-term growth strategy and the next phase of our international expansion.

Education: UCL | BA in French and Spanish with Latin American Studies

Josh joined The Profs in 2018 as a Client Success Manager and has matched more than 3,000 clients with their perfect tutor. After 4 successful years, he transitioned into operations, helping to build the wider infrastructure needed to support The Profs’ rapid growth.

In 2022, Josh ascended to Operations Manager and spearheaded our data-driven grade projection tech. Today, as Chief of Staff, Josh works closely with the founders and senior leadership team to guide The Profs’ operational strategy and product development.

Rosie holme

Education: Newcastle University | BA History & Politics 

After 4 years as our Tutor Community Manager, Rosie has advanced to Head of Tutor Relations, where she seamlessly orchestrates the recruitment and professional development of our tutor network. As a former tutor, Rosie’s background gives her a natural ability to both connect with our educators and empathise with the expectations of our clients.

As a result of her team’s efforts, our tutors represent the best in the industry: 98% are postgraduates, 41% hold PhDs, and 70% possess at least 10 years of experience.

With over 20 years of experience in software development, Nadir leads the engineering team at The Profs. Passionate about hands-on development and emerging technologies, Nadir ensures our students and tutors benefit from reliable, innovative systems that enhance the learning experience. Before joining The Profs in 2026, Nadir enjoyed a 17-year career at Education First, where he advanced through a series of senior technical and leadership positions, including Software Engineer, Lead Engineering Project Manager and Software Engineering Manager.

Education: LCCM | BMus Music Performance and Production

Billy joined The Profs in 2022 as our Talent Acquisition Manager and was proudly appointed as Head of Talent & Culture in 2025. He oversees both internal and tutor recruitment, managing the entire process from reviewing and interviewing candidates to onboarding and supporting new team members.

Beyond recruitment, Billy drives many of The Profs’ cultural initiatives, helping to shape our mission, values, and employee benefits. He is extremely proud to have personally built a team that is genuinely invested in helping students thrive in education.

Rebecca thompson

Education: Concordia University | BA in Child Studies

As one of The Profs’ longest-serving team members, Rebecca has played a pivotal role in the success of our admissions consulting service. Having worked closely with our students and families for 9+ years, Rebecca understands the challenges, uncertainties and important decisions that come with the university admissions process. Her warm, approachable nature allows her to build strong relationships and provide reassurance when students need it most.

Today, as Consultancy Manager, Rebecca oversees the delivery of tailored educational support, and under her leadership, our consultancy branch achieved 153% growth in July 2025 and surpassed its first £1 million in revenue.

Ben wilson

Ben brings extensive experience from across the tutoring sector. Before joining The Profs as a Client Liaison Manager in 2020, he worked as a tutor himself and served as Centre Director at a leading tuition centre. Having spent more than 5 years working at The Profs, Ben has successfully supported more than 2,000 students in being matched up with their perfect tutor. He now oversees our matching team in his current Head of Tuition role.
