How much are online tutors with The Profs?
The Profs is a UK-based online tutoring service that offers one-on-one tutoring to students of all ages and levels of education. We offer a pay-as-you-go model, so you can get the help you need without breaking the bank.
Undergraduate students can expect to pay £75 per hour for tutoring, while postgraduate students pay £85 per hour. However, prices may vary depending on the tutor’s experience and skillset and the tutored subject. For example, specialist tutoring in very niche fields can start at £120 per hour. We also offer school subjects at £60 per hour and university application support starting at £150 per hour, which can be extremely helpful to students preparing for their future. With The Profs, you can get the help you need without overspending
What is our Placement Fee?
The Placement Fee is a one-off fee of £50, intended to cover the administrative costs and is payable when you have been put in touch with a teacher with whom you are happy to work. This fee is refundable if you are not satisfied and cannot find a suitable replacement tutor replacement. We also have a deposit of £20 when we begin working on your enquiry. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
How do you take payments from students learning from home?
At TheProfs, we take payments on behalf of our teachers and use debit or credit cards and Direct Debit. After the first payment with our payment provider, Stripe, the card details are saved, and further charges are taken automatically. You’re still in complete control, though; you can request an immediate refund of any payment you think is incorrect. Our invoices are sent weekly, and you’ll have 96 hours to query any invoice from us. If you have any questions about payments or anything else related to TheProfs, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Do you teach customised lessons for my subject?
We work with nearly 400 teachers in London, more across the UK, and worldwide, covering everything from Accounting to Zoology to Science to Maths. We are proud of our excellent contacts in the world of Academia, and if we don’t have the right person yet, we’ll be happy to go out and find them for you!
So whether you’re looking for help with your upcoming exams or want to get ahead of the competition at university, our team can help put you on the right track.
Will the tutor be an expert in my subjects?
It’s essential to do research to find a tutor for your specific subject. 90% of our students work with a specialist in their field, so you’re guaranteed to get expert help. However, it’s nearly impossible to find a tutor whose research is in the same area for original topics, like dissertations (especially at the Master’s and PhD level). If it were, it wouldn’t be authentic! What they can do, however, is advise on the best methods, the approach, and the requirements of research at this level and guide you towards the right results. So, if you’re looking for help with a specific subject, be sure to ask your instructor if they have expertise in that area. You don’t want to waste your money and time on someone who can’t help you achieve your goals.
How quickly can you assign someone for me?
Finding a tutor as soon as possible is important, and The Profs understands that. That’s why we offer Priority Placements to those who need a tutor right away. For just a little bit more, we will work to find someone for you on the same day so that you can get started on your tutoring as soon as possible. If you don’t need a tutor right away, our regular placement process usually takes 2-3 working days. Get in touch with us as soon as possible to ensure that you get the tutor you need.
How is my teacher selected?
Your tutor is not only highly qualified but also explicitly selected for you. We take into account your needs and find the best tutor for you. Teachers are interviewed, and feedback is taken from every student they work with, so you can be sure that you’re getting the best possible service.
Your designated Client Liaison Manager will help you find the best tutor(s) for you. Every tutor search is different; one may need help at the secondary level with GCSEs or A-levels or at the university level with admissions support or a dissertations tutor. Others may need help with their studies in science, biology, chemistry, physics, French, Spanish, English, or another subject.
We interview all our instructors individually and take feedback from every student they work with, so we’re in a great position to recommend the right tutor for all your subjects.
Once we have all taken your requirements, teachers with relevant experience will let us know how they can help you, and we’ll help select the best one or two to introduce to you. Your instructor is not only highly qualified but also explicitly selected for you. Tutors are interviewed, and feedback is taken from students they work with to ensure that you’re getting the best possible service.
Ultimately, however, the choice will be yours, so ask our team for any information you need.
How does help from The Profs Tutors work?
Finding the right instructor for you can seem like a daunting task. But don’t worry, The Profs Tutors are here to help! We have a vast network of experienced and qualified tutors, all of whom have been interviewed and assessed to ensure they meet our high standards.
Once we have your requirements, our Client Liaison Manager will approach the best tutors with the relevant experience and send you a shortlist of candidates to choose from. We’re proud that only the top 3% of tutors that apply make it through to work with The Profs Tutors. You can then decide which one is right for you and start lessons immediately!
Will you check how I’m getting on?
Absolutely! We’ll call you after your first tutorial to check that everything is going well. After that, you can reach us by email or telephone between the hours 09:00-18:00 Monday – Friday, and we will be happy to help.
Can a student have a free tutoring session as a trial?
Unfortunately, we don’t offer trial sessions. Still, you will have a chance to speak to your tutor before your first session, usually for around half an hour, to discuss your requirements in more detail and help them prepare properly for your time together. We also have a student satisfaction policy for the first full session, which you can read more about in our Terms and Conditions.
Where and when can I meet my tutor?
The majority of tuition arranged through The Profs takes place online, meaning that students from all over the world can access the best teachers in the UK (and elsewhere). The timing of sessions is always different and depends on your availability and the tutor’s schedule. Let us know any preferences or restrictions on your time, and we will do our best to accommodate.
