For families considering private tutoring, one important question often arises: what difference can tutoring actually make?
As private tutoring becomes increasingly adopted across the UK, there is a growing need for greater transparency around the results it delivers. Research from the Sutton Trust illustrates just how widespread it has become: 45% of pupils in London had received private tutoring, compared with 27% in the rest of England and 24% in Wales.
The Profs is proud to be the first tutoring company to have published three consecutive years of verified student outcomes from 2023 to 2025, covering A-Level, undergraduate and university application results.
Based on a total of 484 student responses, the headline figures below provide a detailed picture of what students working with The Profs have achieved across different subjects and stages of education.
Outstanding A-Level Results
Across the 2023–2025 period, 91% of our A-Level students achieved A*–B grades, with attainment rates surpassing the national average in 100% of A-Level subject groups.
In 2025:
- 67% of our students achieved A*–A grades (2.5x the national average).
- 91% achieved A*–B across Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics & Quantitative Sciences.
- A*–A attainment increased by 16% (vs 2023).
- The average student achieved a +2.0 grade improvement with 22 hours of tutoring.
Beyond final attainment, the data allows us to examine how much academic progress students made and the average amount of tutoring associated with that improvement. Our 2025 results show, for example, that a student could progress from a C to an A with 23 hours of tutoring on average.
Tracking this alongside final grades gives us a more complete picture of student progress and, as our dataset grows, will allow us to provide increasingly useful benchmarks for students and families considering one-to-one A-Level Tutoring.
Record-Breaking Undergraduate Outcomes
Our undergraduate results show a similarly strong pattern of attainment and academic improvement.
- Across the full three-year period, 93% achieved a 2:1 or above.
- In 2025, 57% achieved a First-Class result (nearly 2x the national average).
- The average student achieved a +2.0 grade improvement in 2025.

The Wider Value of Academic Achievement
While the immediate objective of tutoring may be to improve a grade, secure a particular degree classification or gain admission to a target university, the value of those outcomes can extend considerably further.
Stronger academic results can expand the range of courses and universities available to a student, while university choice and degree performance can subsequently influence graduate opportunities and longer-term outcomes.
