24-years-experienced Geography tutor with a background working as an examiner, curriculum consultant, faculty and pastoral lead.

I am an experienced education leader and classroom teacher. I’ve led many departments and faculties in both private, state and academy sectors. I am particularly skilled at curriculum design and teaching through language and literacy. My science background leaves me perfectly placed to support the STEM elements of Geography.

I have taught most curriculums, recently AQA at GCSE level and OCR at A level.

For six years I was Head of Department with the Girls Day School Trust, Croydon High and before this a further 6 years as Head of the Humanities Faculty with Harris Academy Peckham, here in particular I enjoyed training teachers to be outstanding. I was privileged before this to work as a Head of Year and subsequently Head of Geography with The Charter School North Dulwich. My international experience of teaching in Kerala, South India with the Trivandrum International School gave me a vital global perspective.

I teach both Human and Physical geography to A-Level. I am an environmental Scientist and Geologist by training; therefore, I particularly enjoy the ‘physical’ elements of the curriculum. I like ‘thinking outside the box’ creating and instigating cross curricular workshops combining arts and sciences. This has been beneficial when supporting students in designing their own investigations for their NEA or cross curricula EPQ projects. I also enjoy designing for KS3 transition groups, or at the other end with their university applications and personal statements.

I have a proven track record in lifting grades, through developing student understanding of key geographical concepts as well as developing their writing skills to explain and evaluate with effect. Working as an examiner has been great training on how to help student maximise exam success.

Recently I have enjoyed the freedom of interim teaching and Geography consultancy.
