Joseph Tutoring Profile
Postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the University of Oxford with expertise in Engineering Science.
About
Joseph is an accomplished postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, where he completed both his First-Class MEng and DPhil (PhD). His innovative research in human intent prediction using wearable sensors has significant applications in assistive medical devices, such as prosthetics and orthotics. As a member of the Natural Interaction Lab at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Joseph has presented his findings at multiple international conferences and published six papers in leading academic journals. His teaching approach mirrors the renowned Oxford tutorial system, encouraging students to discover solutions independently, fostering deep understanding rather than rote memorisation. Since 2019, Joseph has been a private tutor in Maths, Physics, and Engineering, successfully guiding students from GCSE to undergraduate level, and helping many secure their first-choice university placements. Alongside his tutoring experience, Joseph lectures in Engineering at Oxford, supervises undergraduate projects, and leads practical lab sessions. He has also lectured for Summer Boarding Courses, the UK's top summer school programme. Joseph’s extensive involvement in Oxford’s admissions process, including running outreach workshops and marking PAT entrance exams, gives him valuable insights into what top universities seek in applicants.

Experience
I have been a private tutor in Maths, Physics and Engineering since beginning my PhD in 2019, with clients ranging from GCSE to Undergraduate level, and have assisted many students in successfully obtaining their first choice of university. At the University of Oxford, I regularly lecture in Engineering, run undergraduate practical laboratory sessions and supervise third-year projects. Privately, I have also lectured with Summer Boarding Courses, the UK's number 1 summer school programme. Within the University, I run official outreach admissions support workshops and mark student PAT entrance exams, giving me an internal insight into the admissions process.
