The TARA (Test of Academic Reasoning for Admissions) is a new admissions test introduced in the 2026/27 cycle for Oxford’s most rigorous courses, including PPE, Economics and Management, History and Politics, Psychology and more. Several courses at UCL began using the TARA test the previous year and it is expected that more universities will adopt the test in the future. Rather than testing subject knowledge, the TARA assesses the core reasoning skills top universities look for, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to analyse complex information under time pressure.
